Food Safety

We are committed to performing quality analyses in order to ensure a high level of protection of public health regarding the food industry by controlling the safety of the Agri-food chain. We are passionate about the safety and quality

Analytical Chemistry Laboratory

The Analytical Chemistry Laboratory performs chemical analyzes using state-of-the-art analytical equipment, mass spectrometers, specialized for high-throughput food testing. Laboratory equipment is suitable for the analysis of nutrients such as proteins, fats, carbohydrates, fibers, minerals and vitamins, but also contaminants such as mycotoxins, pesticides, heavy metals, nitrates, preservativesetc, while it is important to control the migration of substances from packaging materials to the food. Scope of analysis expands based on the new legislation requirements, consumer needs and the new trends in food analysis.

  • Chemical Contaminants
  • Mycotoxins
  • Pesticide residues
  • Food contact materials – Migration
  • Adulteration of foodstuff – Food Fraud
  • Food additives

Microbiological Laboratory

Having several decades of experience and staffed by the appropriate scientific staff, has long overtaken the classical microbiology and uses the most modern technology. The benefit of using advanced equipment is mainly the speed of analysis, an important parameter in the output of results. All methods of analysis are based on standard methods (ISO & AFNOR) and are confirmed by international process experiments where the laboratory has repeatedly come to precision measurements. Testing takes place not only in the product itself but also in the production environment as part of the control of sound production techniques (air sampling, environmental pollutants).

The laboratory also specializes in the detection of pathogenic microorganisms using molecular techniques such as the Molecular Detection System. The main advantage of this innovative technique is the rapid detection for many samples simultaneously at low detection limits.

Molecular Biology Laboratory

The mission of Molecular biology laboratory is to protect the interests and health of the consumer in the framework of the EU legislation on food product with the application of DNA-based methods, like real time Polymerase Chain Reaction (rt qPCR) and Enzyme-Linked-Immunoassay Analysis (ELISA), for the reliable detection of potential biological threats like allergens, mycotoxins and Genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

EU legislation has established rules for the control of GMOs, mycotoxins and allergens in foods: Food Products containing GMOs and allergenic components have to be labelled, while tresholds for mycotoxins presence in foods are really strict.

Food market globalization and extended plant cultivation especially in tropical climates, increase the possibility of detecting Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and mycotoxins in crops, food ingredients, additives and final products.

In addition, food allergy is a fast occurring phenomenon, since different sources estimate the prevalence of food allergy to be 2-8% among aduts and children with an upward tendency. There are a lot of allergen trigerring food components. Food allergy cannot be healed in most patients, so the only way to protect the consumer is a food labelling providing full list of all allergenic ingredients may present in the product.

All these facts have motivated the laboratory to develop highly sensitive and specific molecular and immunoassay detection methods for more trusted food labelling.
